by Josh Raynolds

2014 Goodfellow Family Cellars, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, $20 – Deep red. Fresh and incisive on the nose, displaying intense red berry, cherry pit and star anise qualities and a hint of candied flowers. Juicy and subtly sweet, offering raspberry and cola flavors that unfold and put on weight with air. Shows good vivacity for a wine from a ripe vintage and finishes sappy, gently tannic and long, with a lingering red fruit note. 90

2013 Goodfellow Family Cellars, Pinot Noir Heritage $75 – (50 percent whole clusters) Deep red. Fresh raspberry and blackberry aromas are complemented by hints of Asian spices and cola, and a mineral element adds vivacity. Pliant red berry, rose pastille and spicecake flavors stain the palate and slowly flesh out with aeration. Silky tannins provide gentle grip and focus to the long, spice-driven finish, which echoes the floral and cola notes. 91
2013 Goodfellow Family Cellars, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, $20 – Vivid red. Zesty, spice-accented red berries and cherry on the incisive nose and in the mouth. Lithe and precise, carrying no excess weight; a touch of sweet rose pastille emerges as the wine opens up. In a clean and racy style, finishing with firm spicy bite and fine-grained tannins that lend shape and subtle grip. 89

Goodfellow Family Cellars, Chardonnay, Ribbon Ridge, Whistling Ridge Vineyard, 13.5%, $40 – The nose is fresh, precise and full of bright citrus, pineapple sap and toast accented with pristine golden and green tree fruit. The palate shows beautiful layering on entry with subtle fruit that goes from crisp to ripe. The overriding character is one of wholeness without being overdone. Drink 2016 – 2022. 94

2014 Goodfellow Family Cellars, Pinot Noir, Dundee Hills, Durant Vineyard, 14.2%, 175 cs., $45 – From vines planted in 1973, the nose is a bright and deeply extracted red fruit with licorice and spice box and notes of graphite. The palate is ripe and juicy on entry with fresh strawberry, cherry and floral. Silky with good acidity reminding of NECCO mint wafers. Drink 2016 – 2022. 91
2014 Goodfellow Family Cellars, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, 13.8%, 750 cs., $21 – If looking for a great value, here it is! The nose is tomato, cherry and graphite all beautifully layered.
