the GOODFELLOW 2026 VINDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION OFFERS:
MPCru 3pk: “the Shan_A” SOLD OUT!!
GOODFELLOW HERITAGE PINOTS
$225 MPCru Vindependence ($270 retail, if it existed)
1btl 2019 Heritage No. 16, Lewman Vineyard Pinot Noir This is into a wonderful space, early in its life cycle but wonderfully aromatic, old world in nature earning the phrase, “the iron fist in the velvet glove”. Red fruits, supple in the nose giving layers of red cherry and currant, with amaro like spice tones and loamy red earth. The palate shows the elegance and restraint of the 2019 vintage with great energy. The fruit is still savory but the fine tannins linger and the future of this wine seems very, very bright.
1btl 2017 Heritage No. 10, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir A vintage very near the top of my list, and this may be my favorite of the Whistling Ridge Heritage wines we have produced. As one would expect, give this time to open or keep it in the cellar for future days. Aromatics are expressive and compelling as the wine opens. Deep red fruits, with subtle earth and forest floor notes. Hints of fresh kitchen herbs and brown spice also come through. As the wine fully opens, the array of tones, notes, textures, and weights is remarkable. Many nuances find their way to a moment in the spotlight and the “everything in the right place” element to a wine a s complex as this is very compelling.
1btl 2015 Heritage No. 6, Fir Crest Vineyard Pinot Noir This wine continues to gain layers and nuance. Always the darkest of the vineyards in expression, Fir Crest typically brings considerable black fruit alongside layers of exotic spice and kitchen herbs. This bottling shows the power of the vintage and also the remarkable retention of acidity of the vineyard.

3pk #2: “the James_Lyon”
GOODFELLOW CHARDONNAY
$175 retail, $140 Vindependence Weekend
1btl 2021 Temperance Hill Vineyard Chardonnay
The 2021 vintage was just outstanding for Chardonnay in the Willamette Valley, and at now several years in bottle, the Temperance Hill is in a fantastic place. Textural, with the trademark Temperance Hill reduction.
1btl 2022 Tsai Vineyard Chardonnay
Opens with lovely saline reductive notes. This just flows out of the glass, fills the nose with sea breeze and steel. As it opens, white flowers, candied ginger, and stones come to the fore. The reduction drifts away and this is lovely yellow apple, nectarine, talc, grain, and yeasty notes. The palate has a lovely, intense density to it but is not heavy at all (12.1% abv). The weightless power of this wine is really worth noting. 115 cases produced, 12.1% abv, drink now to 2035.
1btl 2023 Durant Vineyard Chardonnay
The 2023 Chardonnays are ethereal and lighter bodied in comparison to the previous two vintages. The Durant shows little of the reduction we often have in the wines, instead it leads with pear blossoms, seashells, hints of straw, and citrus. The mouth is light bodied but textural, the wine is bright, refreshing, and pairs perfectly with oysters, crustaceans, and delicate whitefish like sole. 115 cases produced, 11.2%, drink now to 2035.
3pk #3: “the Bill_Mauger”
FIR CREST VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
$195 retail, $156 Vindependence Weekend
1btl 2018 Fir Crest Vineyard Pinot Noir
Densely expressive on opening. Rich, darker (for Goodfellow), with a cross of black fruit and savory summer herbs. Blackberries, fennel pollen, preserved lemon, layered and nicely complex. With air, the palate is juicy black fruits, early tannins are fine and lead into a very long savory finish. 113 cases, 13.3% abv, drink now through 2050.
1btl 2019 Block Eight, Fir Crest Vineyard Pinot Noir
Meaty roasted game notes at first, more restrained than the Cuvee Russ or the 2018, but this has a lovely nose of leather and dust, red flowers, exotic spice, Asian kitchen, and perhaps a bit of red plum. In the mouth it’s a bit more coiled, this still wants a few years or to be left open for a night. 55 cases produced, 13.3% abv, drink 2028-2050.
1btl 2022 “Cuvee Russ” Fir Crest Vineyard Pinot Noir
Whoa, this just jumps out of the glass now. Harmonious black fruit (plums and berries), forest floor, and kitchen herbs, and citrus peel. Still coiled a bit, this wine with thrive with more time in the cellar. With more air, the nose turns red fruited and dusty. Strawberries and very ripe red plums, exotic dry spices emerge mixing with the amaro-like savory notes. Vinous, with balance between fruit and tannin, both present in goodly amounts. Showcases the lovely fruit of the vintage with the Goodfellow “house” style. 55 cases produced, 12.8% abv, drink now to 2050.

HOUSE BLOCK, WHISTLING RIDGE PINOT NOIR
$210 retail, $168 Vindependence Weekend
1btl 2018 House Block, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir
1btl 2019 House Block, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir
1btl 2023 House Block, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir
The House Block at Whistling Ridge is the only block in the vineyard with a West aspect at Whistling Ridge. It rolls down to meet Beaux Freres and gets direct sun at the hottest part of the day. It’s also the only concave block in the vineyard as a swale that fully appears in the Beaux Freres property begins in the vines at House. The cover crop in this block always stays green in this block a little longer as the topsoil retains moisture further into the growing season. That creates a bigger competition for nitrogen and limits the canopy growth. The combination of sparse canopy with the afternoon sun exposure creates a situation where the skins gain in anthocyanins and tannins but sugar elevation moves very slowly. There is a darker profile to the House Block Pinot Noir than there is in the Long Acre wines where the vines lean to the Southeast getting the morning sun, but the alcohols stay quite low. This is where we take the fruit for the Blanc de Noirs from as well, and it has a flavor intensity and denseness that is, simply put, special. With time to evolve, the House Block shows ripe strawberry and dark cherry tones, velvety textures, clove spice and clean earthy forest floor notes. There is less of the classic rose petal/citrus peel of the Long Acre or Beloved Acre, as the House Block wines are just a bit more brooding in nature.

The mousse is fine and perlage is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was. The palate is clean, very sleek, balanced with excellent length. 2025 Goodfellow Willamette Valley Rose
Citrus peel, melon, peach skin, orange flowers. This has a cooling element to smelling it, it’s very pretty as well almost alluringly so. Supple in the mouth, it’s round, textural, but weightless. It has a weightlessness, and is bright, delightful, delicious, with excellent persistence and juiciness. Pair this with grilled chicken, carnitas or barbacoa, stinky cheese, or anything that needs something juicy and bright to wash it down. 150 cases produced, 12.0% abv, drink this over the next 2-3 years.
2024 Whistling Ridge Vineyard Riesling
Wonderful sponti nose, stock, peaches and smoke, yellow apples and blossoms. Classic Riesling nose, very perfumed and elegant. The mouth is lime skin, bright tart fruit, green apples…must like acid. pH 2.95 + RS 1.8 g/l + 10.2% abv=laser beam.
2023 Goodfellow Willamette Valley Chardonnay
Declassified juice from Whistling Ridge, and quite probably the best wine from this case. It opens with lovely notes of grain, pastry dough, straw, and hazelnuts. Little to no reduction, and reminds me of Vincent Dancer’s wines. I can’t express enough how much this wine should be represented in this case, it is simply delicious. I am stupid for putting this fruit in this cuvee. The palate is lemon, pie crust, straw, and just so refreshing. It has weight, charm, balance, and a beautiful quenching finish. 175 cases produced, 11.6% abv, drink now until 2035. But really, this year is a great time to drink this, it’s delicious.
