Offer #1: “the Scott Kieser”

GOODFELLOW SPARKLING

6-PACK $252 through Monday

3btl Willamette Valley Extra Brut (December 2024 disgorgement)

Vibrant and delicious , the nose is all oyster shells and white flowers with a little bit of almond and a hint of lees, very bright and energetic. The palate just jumps in the mouth, vibrant, clean, lemony, with fine bubbles and excellent texture. We love this right now, others may want to cellar it a bit. 60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir. 2.5g/L dosage

3btl Durant Vineyard Blanc de Blancs (April 2024 disgorgement)

Layered with ripe orchard fruits, yeasty tones, the classic Durant earthy note, and a fine bit of grilled bread. Subtle and complex, very relaxed energy, this is much softer and more rounded than the Willamette Valley Extra brut. Base wines from the 2019 and 2021 vintages and a full year past its disgorgement, this wine is turning into a really lovely first effort, and a very classy Blanc de Blancs. 5g/L dosage

Offer #2: “the Mark Maddox”

2023 CHARDONNAY PRE-SALE

6-pack $272 through Monday

2btl 2023 Richard’s Cuvee, Whistling Ridge Chardonnay

Beautiful sea spray and seashell layered over stone fruits and sugarless pineapple, a fresh bed of flowers, yellow apple. There is a lot to unpack in this wine yet it’s also seamless and just delicious to drink. The palate is weightless, and still rich and textural. I haven’t seen any other Oregon vineyard that has this textural presence at 11.5% abv and as this ages I can’t help but feel that it will be an extraordinary wine, even by this vineyard’s standards. Drink 2030-2040. 135 cases made.

2btl 2023 Temperance Hill Chardonnay

The nose carries the flinty tones so typical of Temperance Hill, less reductive than the 2022, stony, elegant, restrained. White flowers and pears. The palate is weightless, light bodied but textural, with an effortless quality to it. light bodied now, I feel like early drinking on a hot day with shellfish would be about perfect. Think scallops, crab, and prawns. For cellaring, the window is probably from 2028-2040. 124 cases made.

2btl 2023 Durant Vineyard Chardonnay

The nose starts off with an intoxicating note of yuzu, followed by apple blossoms, mint, and a hint of fresh bread. The palate is bright, vibrant, lighter bodied, with lots of energy. Delicious now for those who like bright high acid wines, this should cellar well and improve for 7-10 years. 116 cases made.

Offer #3: “the Chris Crutchfield”

GOODFELLOW HERITAGE WINES

6-pack $376 through Monday

2btl 2022 Heritage No.20, Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir

Temperance Hill is an iconic vineyard for Oregon, and perhaps because very few other sites have such a unique signature in their terroir. While the No. 20 has miles to go before it’s at peak, it does offer a great view of what it means to be Temperance Hill. The nose is sanguine, meaty and bloody, with notes of dark fruit, coffee, orange peel, white pepper, and cedar. The nose jumps out of the glass (open a couple of hours) and there is so much to unpack. Drink now or from 2030-2040.

2btl 2021 Heritage No.19, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

The nose is that perfect (for us) combination of red currant, cranberry, alpine strawberry, and bright red cherry with kitchen herbs, subois and, forest floor. The palate is still a touch coiled, but very vibrant and energetic with strawberry, cedar, hints of cinnamon, and a great savory finish. While I would hold this for 6-10 more years, with food it drinks well at the moment.

2btl 2015 Heritage No.6, Fir Crest Vineyard Pinot Noir

This has been delicious lately. While 2015 is a hot vintage, and Fir Crest does tend to produce darker wines (I think of it as our Clos de la Roche) the acids are always there. This is just exploding with nuance all wrapped in blue/black fruits, and yet it’s balanced and refreshing at the same time.

Offer #4 “the Dan Kravitz”

“...AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT”

6-pack $184 through Monday

2btl 2024 Whistling Ridge Blanc

Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, and a bit of Gewurztraminer. This wine is always eminently drinkable and delicious, aromatically expressive, floral, loaded with various fruits and perfect for summer days or Thanksgiving dinner.

2btl NV Whistling Ridge Cab Franc

Too often the “story” of winemaking is about control and the 100% overarching pretense that winemakers always know the best way to go. In truth, often good winemaking is about doing the basics to the best of your ability and then keeping an open mind to see how things turn out, and how they work together. Serendipity is a real thing and not to be taken lightly as good fruit wants to be good wines. In 2021 the Cab Franc at Whistling Ridge produced 10 gallons of wine and in 2022 it produced 8 gallons. In 2023 it was 41 gallons and in 2024 we got 30 gallons. The 2021 and 2022 elevage and aging was in keg because that’s the smallest vessel we have. 2023 and 2024 each produced a half barrel of each wine plus some topping wine. While wondering what to do with them, I blended them together just for fun and was stuck by how well the resulting blend turned out. This is unquestionably a “garage wine”, unfiltered and un-fined, and perfectly in tune with the ethos of the Loire. The nose on opening is anise, roses, and dark red fruits opening into pencil shavings, herbs de provence, and stones. The palate is rounded off a bit from the fine sediment, and if you cellar this, we recommend decanting off the sediment as it ages, but it’s quite delicious now. And like the Baudry wines, it delivers a lot of enjoyment and a lot of layers for not a lot of dough.

2btl 2015 Deux Vert Vineyard Syrah

Violets and thyme, mulberry, blueberry, black earth, and grilled meat. More purple and blue fruits in the mouth, juicy, fresh, and refreshing. Medium bodied, and a great comparison with St. Joseph. 4% viognier co-ferment, 100% whole cluster. Ten years post vintage this is in a lovely spot.
