WHISTLING RIDGE LIBRARY OFFERINGS

2017 Whistling Ridge Vineyard Chardonnay $85 (36 bottles available, max two bottles per order. thank you for understanding)

Definitely give this time to breathe, as it is just beginning to unwind. Pale yellow, like white gold. Opens with a stony, rocky, smokey, saline note, reminiscent of Roulot’s Meursaults. Ethereal white flowers, sea spray, lemon peel, and stone. The palate is subtle, refined, and weightless, a beautiful synergy of pale florals, sea spray, lemon peel, pear, flint, bread dough, smoke, and mineral. that such disparate elements can meld together so seamlessly.

2017 Heritage No. 10, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir $90 (limit 3 per order)

One of the great vintages for Goodfellow, this is also one of our favorite 2017s. Still very youthful, I would honestly recommend holding this until 2030, but with time open it does drink very well now. The stem tannins are integrating and evolving, tertiary flavors are peeking out, and the fruit is still quite nicely fresh. The nose is rose petals over forest floor, a hint of orange rind, and underneath red fruit and dry earth. With time the fruit darkens, and dark earth comes to the forefront. The balance is tremendous, with lovely weight and density, layers of flavor, and still tannin and fruit to develop. Drink now until 2040.

2019 House Block, Whistling Ridge Pinot Noir $70 bottle (limit 3 per order)

The first of the 2019s to emerge from the dumb phase, this is in early maturity but beginning to show its secondary nature. The west facing fruit is exposed to the sun at the hottest part of the day and there is an extra touch of skin development, darkening the hue of wines from the House Block and adding just a touch more dry extract and depth of fruit. The 2019 vintage was cool and classic in nature, and the restraint of the vintage paired with the density of the House Block is a magical combination. This is a wine to hold for 2030-2045, and the patience will be well rewarded.

Whistling Ridge Single Vineyard Pinot Noir mini-vertical 3pk - SOLD OUT-

1btl 2015 Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

1btl 2016 Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

1btl 2017 Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

All of these have turned the first corner into the plateau of maturity. Not aged, but into their adulthood. They each have a wonderfully different personality. The 2015 illustrates the power of the vintage, it has made the shift from red fruit to black and carries a natural heft and profoundness to it. The 2016 is still red fruited and shows the suppleness and balance of the vintage. The 2017 shows the class of the vintage, silky, elegant, and layered, so attractive in the glass. All need only a little air (though individual bottles may vary) and I would recommend 15-20 minutes in a decanter. This is a tremendous value in Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs, and is the last of each of these wines that we have available for sale. Please limit to one as part of your release order.

Whistling Ridge 2018 Block Exploration Pinot Noir 3pk $210

1btl 2018 Beloved Acre, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

1btl 2018 House Block, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

1btl 2018 Long Acre, Whistling Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

2018 was the first year that we bottled the Beloved Acre independently of the Heritage wines, and so provides an excellent opportunity to taste a cross section of the vineyard terroirs with a bit of age on the wines. The 2018 vintage is just beginning to wake from the dumb phase, so I would suggest holding these for another 2-4 years as a start (the wines will continue to drink beautifully for at least another decade). The set highlights how the shift in aspect and wind can impact the wines, as well as the singular idiosyncrasies of each place in the vineyard. For near term consumption, I would decant the wines ahead of time and enjoy them over several hours once they’ve had an hour or so in the decanter. (limited)
